    Reading On-the-Go

One thing I’ve learned about myself the last 2 years is that when your job involves reading and writing full time, it can be really hard to sit down and enjoy reading just for fun. Maybe it’s sitting for 8 hours a day that makes me restless or the constant stream of words in front of me that makes it difficult to come home and want to spend any more time on the computer or sitting down to read a good book. Whatever the reason may be, I knew that I missed reading too much to just abandon curling up with a good book–enter my newfound love of poetry. Poetry…

    A Bouquet of Thanks

With the holidays just around the corner, family gatherings can sneak up on us whether we’re ready or not. Between work, school, or extracurricular activities, cooking or baking something for each event may not be an option. But, don’t worry! You don’t have to show up empty handed. Flowers are an easy, thoughtful gift to bring along to any Thanksgiving meal. Have more than one stop to make? Just buy a few bunches of flowers, arrange them together, add some ribbon and you’re all set!

    Poetry, Poetry, Poetry

po·em ˈpōəm,pōm/ noun 1.) A piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanzaic structure.  synonyms: verse, rhyme, piece of poetry, song 2.) Something that arouses strong emotions because of its beauty. Lately I’ve noticed there are more and more poems floating around on Instagram and Facebook. Many of them are images of scribbled notes on parchment paper or a few lines written on a typewriter to give them a vintage feel. Not everyone is an English major so it’s no surprise that teens and young adults aren’t…

    Summer Reading

It’s no secret that summer reading and “beach books” get a bad rap for being easy-to-read, superficial stories. I’ve never really liked that stereotype because during high school and college, summer was always the time of year when I got to choose what I wanted to read so for me, it had nothing to do with a book’s reading level and everything to do with my interest in the stories and authors I got to explore on my own. One of my all-time favorite authors to read in the summer is Sarah Dessen. I love her books so much that I wrote my college Honor’s Thesis on her success as a Young…

    A Very Gatsby Birthday

Loving all things Fitzgerald, I knew my 25th birthday celebration had to be Gatsby themed. Champagne, sparkle, and my best friends set the stage for a wonderful night! I’ve always loved party planning and my attention to detail tends to be off the charts, so I had a lot of fun setting up quotes from the Great Gatsby and mini champagne bottles filled with Jelly Belly candies. Fitting right into the theme, my birthday is after Christmas and before New Year’s so everything tends to have a little bit of its own sparkle anyway. Here are some pictures from my party set up and of course, one of my favorite quotes:…

    All Things Fall

Fall is a great time to experiment in the kitchen. Chilly Saturday mornings have been the best time to try out my new oatmeal recipes for a hearty breakfast option and for a mid afternoon snack, caramel popcorn has quickly become a fall favorite. Plus, my homemade apple crisp works well for breakfast or dessert! Here are some pictures of the finished products and some festive decorative pumpkins I crafted for a Halloween party at work.                                                         Cinnamon-Honey Oatmeal          …
