Honey-Glazed Ham
A few years ago, I had the chance to make the honey-glazed ham for Christmas and ever since, it’s become a family favorite around this time of year. Baking a ham is fairly simple, and with just a few added ingredients to make the glaze, you can create a festive, delicious honey baked ham for the holidays!
Ingredients:
- 1 stick of unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- Pineapple slices
- Cloves
- Ham
Instructions:
Prepping the ham:
- Take the ham out of the packaging (but save it for time and temperature instructions).
- Score the ham making shallow cuts diagonally on the surface.
- Place the ham in a roasting pan or casserole dish (adding 1/4 -1/2 cup of water will also help keep the ham from burning as it starts to bake and its natural juices are released).
- Dress the ham with cloves and pineapple using the cloves to “pin” the slices on the ham.
Prepping the glaze:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, mix the butter, brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg together until the sugar dissolves and a glaze forms. Stir constantly to prevent sticking.
- Using a pastry brush, cover the entire surface of the ham with the glaze.
- Bake the ham according to the recommended time and temperature on the packaging.
- Remove from the oven every 15 minutes to brush the ham with the honey glaze.
- Sprinkle additional brown sugar on top and place the ham back in the oven for 3-4 minutes on broil just so the sugar caramelizes.
- Watch it carefully and remove it from the oven as soon as it turns a dark golden brown
- Let it sit a few minutes before serving and enjoy!
